5 Ways to Stay Cool & Have Fun This Summer
Here in Coastal Alabama, the summers bring some serious heat! It can be difficult to find ways to enjoy the summer weather without overheating. While a trip to the beach and a pool day are always fun, these aren’t always feasible options for daily summer activities. It’s easy to get stuck inside over the summer, binge watching shows in the air conditioning. In order to add some variety to your summer schedule, we’ve put together a list of our favorite activities to help you stay cool and have fun this summer.
Icy Treats
Making some sweet treats with the family is a great way to have fun this summer! There are countless recipes available online for slushies, popsicles, ice cream, and more. One of our favorite summer treats is a watermelon slushie. All you need is watermelon, ice, lime juice, mint leaves, and filtered or seltzer water. Blend these ingredients together to your liking and you’re all set! Your family will love this summer treat. Now take a sip, relax, and imagine you’re on a beach getaway.
Paint With Water
Painting with water may sound silly, but it’s a great activity for keeping your younger kids entertained while staying cool. Gather some buckets full of water, paintbrushes, paint rollers, and head out to your driveway, Children love using the roller and brushes to “paint” their own water artwork onto the driveway. Make it a game to see who can finish their painting before it evaporates! The best part about this is that there’s no messy cleanup involved!
Sprinklers
No summer activity will keep your kids entertained longer than a simple sprinkler setup. Kids love running through the water more than anything! Turn on your regular yard sprinklers or connect a few fun sprinklers to hoses across your yard. Your kids will have a ball chasing each other through the sprinklers. You can also purchase kiddie pools, slip n’ slides, and other water toys to add to the fun.
Pillow Forts
A great way to beat the heat is by staying inside with the cool air conditioning! Once the shirts are frozen, bring them outside and challenge your kids to see who can pull theirs apart and put it on the fastest! Kids always get a real kick out of this freezing speed game.
